Attention all event organizers looking to put on a shindig in Kirkland – you've got a bit more time to get your ducks in a row. The Kirkland Tourism Development Committee (TDC) is giving you until August 18, to submit your applications for the Explore Kirkland tourism grant program. If you are caught the news through the grapevine, well, to apply for funds to quickly bring your tourism-centered festival or event ideas to fruition, you now have extra days to work with.
The Explore Kirkland program isn't just about dishing out cash; it's about spotlighting Kirkland's charm and drawing in crowds who wouldn't mind sticking around for a night or two. If you're planning something that could entice folks from over 50 miles out to come over, maybe even convince them to spend the evening, you're exactly who they want to hear from. Highlighting the city and making guests want to come back for more is the name of the game. Kirkland has already played gracious host to the likes of the Junior League Softball World Series and Kirkland Summerfest, to mention a few.
If you are wondering where the funds are coming from, it's all thanks to the tourists themselves – or more accurately, the lodging tax from Kirkland's hotels, motels, and short-term rentals. As reported by the City of Kirkland's announcement, it's a circular benefit where the industry gets to share in the tourism revenue they help generate. And talking about revenue, we're looking at a pool of approximately $60,000 up for grabs this round. The TDC's focus is to pitch events that pride themselves on creating a safe, inclusive, and welcoming vibe for all comers.
If you're game and think you've got the perfect event up your sleeve, head over to the City's Tourism Funding webpage for the nitty-gritty on eligibility and funding criteria. Remember to shoot your application before 12 p.m. no later than August 18. If you got any head-scratchers, the folks at [email protected] are standing by to clear any confusion. Don't miss your shot to make a splash in Kirkland's tourism scene.
