The City of Kirkland will start using automated traffic cameras on September 2, as the school year begins. The cameras will be placed in school zones near Carl Sandburg, Henry David Thoreau, Discovery, Finn Hill, Environmental and Adventure, Lakeview, Kamiakin, Rose Hill, and John Muir schools, as reported by the City of Kirkland.
The speed limit in these zones is 20 miles per hour when the flashing beacons are on. Drivers should watch for the signals to know when the reduced speed is in effect, as stated by the City of Kirkland.
Kirkland officials announced that school zone speed enforcement is in effect as students return to class. According to the City of Kirkland, "The 20-mile-per-hour speed limit is active only when the beacons are flashing on the school speed zone signs." Drivers who do not follow the limit may receive citations.
