Kissimmee's downtown landscape is poised for a major overhaul as the City Commission has nodded through a substantial deal with Azure Hotel International, Inc., to revamp the old Civic Center site into a gleaming convention center coupled with a 300-room luxury hotel. FOX 35 Orlando detailed that the unanimous vote backing the over $180 million redevelopment project, which is slated to inject fresh vigor into the city's core, bring economic growth, and bolster downtown activity.
Characterized by amenities such as restaurants, a rooftop pool and bar, and a spa, the project is a balance of luxury and functionality, with additions like retail space and a shuttle service connecting major local airports—it also further extends its reach with the construction of a new public trail that ties into adjacent developments. Beyond the aesthetic and service upgrades, economic prospects look bright with city officials predicting the generation of $5–6.5 million in annual property taxes, the creation of 400 construction jobs, and the provision of between 150-250 permanent hospitality roles, as pointed out by Positively Osceola.
Mayor Jackie Espinosa has lauded the venture as a "generational investment" and Azure Hotels expressed an eagerness to craft a destination the community can resonate with for years—"We are honored to partner with Kissimmee on this transformative project… We look forward to delivering a destination that the community can be proud of for decades to come," the company stated, as per FOX 35 Orlando report. Neither timelines nor additional investment details have surfaced, but the consensus is clear: Kissimmee is set to embrace a significant shift in landscape and economic dynamics.
