A fire incident that occurred in a Fairfax neighborhood apartment building was swiftly managed by the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) on Tuesday evening. According to a report published by the LAFD, firefighters responded to a call at 849 N La Brea Ave, where, upon arrival, there was light smoke emanating from the second floor of a five-story modern apartment building. The source of the smoke was identified as a malfunctioning electric scooter. The situation was brought under control in about 15 minutes, owing to the efforts of the 34 firefighters present at the scene. Remarkably, there were no injuries reported.
The LAFD alert indicated that specialists in hazardous materials were dispatched to the location in response to the electric scooter's lithium-ion battery, which requires careful handling to prevent any subsequent danger. Crews stayed on site for an estimated 30 minutes following the containment of the fire to oversee the safe removal of the battery and perform an overhaul of the affected apartment unit.
