Gloves were on, the pitches were thrown, and another chapter of generosity unfolded at Water’s Edge Park. On a sunny Saturday that marked the 6th Annual Charity Softball Game, the Sun City Softball Team swung their bats not just for the love of the game but for a cause that touches hearts beyond the diamond. According to a recent post on Lancaster County Sheriff's Office SC's social media, the friendly competition against local law enforcement officers raised a notable $3,485 for Special Olympics South Carolina on August 2nd.
While the cash flowed in to support the athletes, Coleman Joyner and Ryan Scapin, joining for the event, both Special Olympics contestants, perhaps felt the community's warmth the most. Major Matt Shaw expressed his heartfelt thanks to Sun City's residents, saying, “The Sun City community has always been supportive of the Sheriff’s Office and the Special Olympics. We are grateful for your support.” This wasn't just about playing ball, it was an exhibition of Sun City's unwavering commitment to banding together for the greater good.
There's an undeniable magic to such local events; they carve out a moment in time where victory is measured not by the score, but by collective effort and charitable spirit. The Lancaster County Sheriff's Office SC measures success by more than just runs – it's also about the bonds formed and the lives enriched. Their participation in this event speaks volumes about their dedication to the community they serve.
The annual game, a tradition that the Sheriff's Office is proud to be part of, isn't only a fundraiser. It's a beacon of community engagement, illuminating the power of sports to bring people together. ‘Community Strong’ isn't just a hashtag for those involved in this yearly spectacle.
