The City of Las Cruces Financial Services Department has received notable recognition from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA), as they were awarded the prestigious Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for their comprehensive annual financial report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2024; this award represents the highest standard of achievement in the field of governmental accounting and financial reporting, highlighting the department's commitment to transparency and full disclosure in its financial operations.
According to the City of Las Cruces, an impartial panel assessed the financial report, determining that it adhered to the topmost standards established by the GFOA which not only include the accurate representation of the city's fiscal health but also the conveyance of that information with a clear intent to engage and inform its citizens and stakeholders, fostering an environment where financial literacy is both encouraged and facilitated.
This year's accolade marks a significant landmark, as the city boasts a history of excellence, having now secured the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the 21st consecutive year; the sustained success of the department exemplifies a dedication to excellence that is unwavering even as the years roll on.
Commending the tenacious efforts of her team, "I want to give full credit to the accountants in Accounting and Treasury who make this possible," said Josie Treviño, Comptroller of the Financial Services Department, as obtained by the City of Las Cruces. Despite the pressures of audit season, which spans from July to November, the department's staff maintain their diligence in managing the city’s daily financial affairs while also readying for and aiding in the audit process, a testament to their professional resolve and aptitude.
