Curious about the cogs and sprockets behind the city's day-to-day functions? Las Cruces residents have a fresh opportunity to dive into the workings of their local government without leaving the comfort of their city boundaries. Launching on September 3, the "Know your City" program is a 12-week venture designed to peel back the curtain on municipal operations, ranging from financial management to the thrills of transit and airport logistics, according to the City of Las Cruces.
Structured for the layperson's convenience, potential program participants are allowed to drop in at any session that tickles their fancy. Sessions will take place at City Hall Council Chambers, with an outlier Session 8 held at the Las Cruces Utilities building. At no cost, the series promises recognition for those diligent attendees who see the program through from start to finish, culminating in a graduation brunch and a tip of the hat from the City Council, as stated by the City of Las Cruces.
Wednesdays are earmarked for knowledge-seekers from 6-8 p.m., each week showcasing a new topic. Starting with insights into the City Clerk and Legal department, the following weeks will explore other critical sectors like Police and Fire Departments, and not excluding the more under-the-radar operations such as Codes Enforcement. Sessions lead up to an informative close with a look at Transit, Airport, and Fleet, just before the ceremonial applause on November 17, inviting participants to take a bow for their civic curiosity and newfound understanding.
