The City of Las Vegas and the College of Southern Nevada will open the Historic Westside Education and Training Center on August 27, at 8:30 a.m. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 1099 C St., on the campus of the Historic Westside School, according to the City of Las Vegas.

The City of Las Vegas announced a new 15,000-square-foot center in the Historic Westside that will offer job training programs in advanced manufacturing, health care, technology, and construction trades. The center aims to connect education with career opportunities and college pathways. The opening ceremony will include Mayor Shelley Berkley, Ward 5 Councilwoman Shondra Summers-Armstrong, Nevada System of Higher Education Chancellor Matt McNair, CSN President Stacy Klippenstein, and U.S. Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto. Mayor Berkley said, "Investing in education is investing in our future and this center will focus on careers in advanced manufacturing, health care, technology and construction trades."

The $16.4 million Westside Education and Training Center, built by Builders United and partly funded by a U.S. Economic Development Administration grant, is designed as a workforce development facility. "Bringing access to higher education into the Historic Westside creates opportunities for people who wouldn't have them otherwise," Klippenstein said. Councilwoman Summers-Armstrong noted the center will welcome its first students, and Senator Cortez Masto said, "Supporting workforce training uplifts our youth, provides valuable resources to jobseekers and primes the Nevada economy for growth in the years to come." The center aims to provide education and job training while supporting the local economy, as reported by the City of Las Vegas.
