U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized more than $297,000 worth of cocaine at the Los Indios International Bridge on Monday. The drugs were found after anomalies were detected during a nonintrusive imaging system scan of a tractor trailer, as per the U.S. Customs and Border Protection website.
A secondary inspection, assisted by a canine unit, led to the discovery of nine packages hidden in the vehicle. The packages contained 22.3 pounds of suspected cocaine.
Authorities took custody of the narcotics and the tractor trailer. Homeland Security Investigations has opened a criminal investigation into the case.
