Firefighters in Lynn faced a challenging scene as they tackled a 3rd alarm fire in a historic Victorian-style home on Baltimore Street. The City of Lynn Fire Department confirmed that the fire had engulfed all floors and was through the roof, prompting District Chief McBride to call for additional engine companies and a ladder company to the scene.
According to the same source, despite the fierce flames, all occupants were accounted for, and as of their latest update, no injuries were reported. The magnitude of the fire required hydrants to be utilized from a long distance, indicating the challenge faced by the crews as they engaged in what was described as an extended operation.
Further reporting by 7NEWS detailed the fire's rapid spread through the residential structure, which was built in the 1880s. According to District Fire Chief Michael McBride, the "balloon framing" of the old structure contributed to the swift movement of the fire into the attic.
"House was built in the 1800s so it was balloon framing, so it really got up into the attic pretty quick," McBride told 7NEWS. He also indicated that the fire appears to have started on the first floor, with the investigation into the cause ongoing.
A kitchen fire reported around 5:30 p.m. quickly escalated, and crews found heavy flames upon arrival. One person from the residence was checked out for injuries, though there have been no reports of hospitalizations related to the blaze.
