Residents in Makawao should brace for traffic disruptions starting this weekend, as the County of Maui Department of Public Works (DPW) announced pavement preservation work on Olinda Road. The project is slated to run from Sept. 3-19, impacting the stretch between Baldwin Avenue and Hanamu Road, according to the county's announcement. Motorists can expect one lane to remain open for alternating traffic during work hours from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on weekdays.
With delays on the horizon, commuters and area dwellers are encouraged to exercise patience and diligence, following any posted traffic control signs and instructions from personnel. The work necessitates driving adjustments within this one-mile zone, and residents should plan accordingly, understanding that parking along road shoulders will not be permitted during these designated hours. Driveway blockers will be deployed at least a day in advance to alert locals of the impending restrictions.
Additionally, residents are being asked to turn off all roadside irrigation systems and if need be, reschedule any home appointments or maintenance activities that require vehicular access. Those seeking further details or clarity on how this might affect their daily commute can reach out directly to the DPW Highways Division at (808) 270-5709.
