A disturbing incident forced two teenagers into a vulnerable position this past Sunday when they were attacked and robbed at a DeBary park. Marquevis W. Chance, 39, is facing multiple charges after allegedly pistol-whipping a male teenager and coercing him and his girlfriend to strip down. ClickOrlando reported that the assault took place at the intersection of Lazio Circle and Kalin Street.
The Volusia Sheriff’s Office stated that Chance approached the couple, used a gun to strike the boy's head, and then directed the weapon towards his girlfriend. He subsequently forced the teens to remove their clothing and fled with these items, leaving them exposed in the park. According to ClickOrlando, the male victim received medical attention for a cut on his head after the attack. Sources indicate that this act of violence was a reprisal, rooted in "retaliation for an earlier altercation involving a family member of the victim," as noted by officials.
Chance surrendered to authorities the day following the incident. He's now being held without bond after being charged with aggravated assault, aggravated battery with a firearm, and armed robbery, as reported by WFTV.
