
A violent encounter in a Riverview parking lot has ended with an arrest. The incident, which occurred on Friday, involved a man whose car was shot nine times while he sat in the vehicle. The shooting took place at the Extended Stay hotel located at 9321 Everhart Road, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
In a response that was swift, detectives from the Gunfire Response Investigations Team of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office rushed to the scene after receiving the call. They soon discovered that the suspect, identified as 37-year-old Jasheed Scatliffe-Kalunda, had approached the silver Camry and opened fire. The driver, who has not been named, narrowly escaped with his life.
The official social media post from the sheriff's office laid out the charges against Scatliffe-Kalunda. They include "Attempted Murder in the First Degree Premeditated Firearm - Discharge," "Aggravated Battery Deadly Weapon," "Shooting at Within or into a Vehicle," and "Discharge Firearm in Public or on Residential Property." The details of the arrest were provided in an update posted by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office yesterday.
The motive behind the shooting is still under investigation, and further information has yet to be released by the authorities. The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office was able to swiftly bring an end to the situation, potentially preventing a more serious outcome.
