
A shooting incident at South Dennis pier has led to an arrest, according to the Dennis Police Department. In a social media post, police detail a 9-1-1 call on Wednesday at about 9:05 pm reporting the sound of a loud bang followed by the sight of a man crying and limping in the parking lot adjacent to Pier 134 Commons.
The victim, suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg, received prompt medical attention and was transported to Cape Cod Hospital with injuries deemed non-life-threatening. Authorities later revealed that the shooting was not a misfortune but a deliberate act committed by a relative. Charged with multiple offenses, including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, the suspected shooter, Anthony Alan Delman-Edwards, was apprehended with a joint force operation.
Delman-Edwards, 37, was taken into custody on August 14 at around 4:45 pm, involving the cooperation of the Harwich Police Department and a regional SWAT team. He faces additional charges, including the discharge of a firearm within 500 feet of a building, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, and a firearms violation with two prior violent or drug crimes, the police reported.
Following an arraignment in Orleans District Court, he is being held without bail until a dangerousness hearing slated for August 19. While the shooting stirred unease, the Dennis Police Department reassured the public, stating, "this incident was not random and there is no additional threat to the safety of our community." Their message, meant to calm any reside lingering anxieties, affirmed a contained situation.
