Early this morning, a fire broke out in a commercial building in Channelview, leaving a man in critical condition with burns. According to Click2Houston, the fire started around 2:00 a.m. in the 16023 block of East Freeway. Witnesses reported hearing a loud boom before the blaze, and officials stated that the man had been working on one of the units when the fire began.
Several units, estimated at four to five, were affected by the incident, causing disruption to the businesses in the building. The identity of the injured man has not been released. The Harris County Fire Marshal's Office confirmed both the fire and the man's critical condition. FOX26 Houston reported that the fire impacted at least four businesses along the I-10 Freeway near Crockett Street.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Authorities are reviewing reports of an explosion-like sound before the fire as they continue to inspect the site and gather more information.
