Early yesterday morning, a man was fatally shot during an altercation with Denver police while they were responding to a pair of incidents in the South Dahlia Street and East Warren Avenue area. As reported by KDVR, officers, who were initially investigating reports of shots fired around 4 a.m., encountered a woman exiting an apartment complex, followed by a male suspect who fled upon noticing the police.
In pursuit of the man, believed to be involved in a domestic violence situation, police engaged in what Denver Police Chief Ron Thomas described as a "pretty lengthy struggle" with the suspect, who then produced a handgun. During the confrontation, one officer fired a single shot that struck the man, CBS News reported. The suspect, identified only as a Hispanic adult male by authorities, was transported to the hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead.
The Denver Police Department has yet to locate the woman who was initially seen approaching the officers, and it remains unclear if the 'shots fired' report is directly linked to the domestic violence call.
