
An incident occurred in Queens over the weekend as a man who was lying in the street was run over and killed by a police car. The episode unfolded just before 5 p.m. last Saturday, inside Flushing Meadows Corona Park. According to ABC7NY, the NYPD officer was cruising past the Queens Theatre when the vehicle drove over the man.
Nearby, the US Open tennis tournament was taking place at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. It was on United Nations Avenue South, close to this sports complex, where the man was found on the pavement and subsequently run over by the slowly moving police car, as detailed by The New York Post.
The NYPD has reported that the patrol car was traveling at approximately 10 miles per hour at the moment of the accident. Details on why the man was in the road are currently unclear, including whether he was part of the US Open's Fan Week activities. Meanwhile, the name of the man has not yet been released to the public.
The victim was taken to New York Presbyterian Hospital in Queens, where he was pronounced dead.
