A man is now in custody following an hours-long standoff in Pittsburgh's Bedford Dwellings area, a situation that required the intervention of SWAT teams last night. WPXI reported that the conflict emerged around 9:40 p.m. at the 2400 block of Chauncey Drive, where a domestic altercation escalated, and a firearm was discharged into the air.
The incident, which began as a domestic situation, eventually saw a woman exiting the home safely while the man locked himself inside, leading to a tense barricading circumstance. Pittsburgh Public Safety declared that the SWAT team was summoned, and the standoff concluded shortly before 12:40 a.m. this morning, when the man surrendered. According to WTAE, the man was already wanted on multiple outstanding arrest warrants and will now be subjected to additional charges.
During the standoff the SWAT negotiators tried to establish communication with the man, these attempts were met with no success. It wasn’t until roughly three hours after the initial police response that the situation was peacefully resolved. The nature of the domestic altercation and identity of the individuals involved have not been disclosed to the public.
