An early morning eruption of gunfire disturbed the peace in a southwest Atlanta neighborhood, injuring a man as he slept in an Airbnb. The Atlanta Police Department reported the incident occurred around 4:15 a.m. last Saturday in the 1600 block of Evans Drive SW, per a FOX 5 Atlanta report. Responding officers found the 29-year-old victim with a graze wound after at least 11 bullets tore into the side of the Airbnb accommodation.
According to the victim's account, an argument is believed to have sparked the shooting. Despite the violent interruption to his slumber, he declined medical treatment. Nearby, a visitor from Tennessee, Tiffany Anderson, recounted being barraged by a sudden wake-up call. "I was so scared because the first thing I was thinking were ‘What has happened here in this very short period of time?’ And then if anything is going to happen to me and my family inside. So we were pretty scared," she told FOX 5 Atlanta.
The Atlanta Police Department's Aggravated Assault Unit took over the investigation, and as the probing continued, no suspect was taken into custody immediately following the incident. Airbnb has been reached out for a statement regarding the shooting, but there was no immediate response at the time of reporting.
Another guest at the property, Raigan Bullard, expressed her understandable eagerness to leave the scene and return to the perceived safety of coastal Georgia. “You’re stuck at the crime scene. You have nowhere to go,“ Bullard described her predicament to Atlanta News First, expounding on the grim reality of either sheltering in a "shot-up house" or remaining in her damaged truck. The police are combing through evidence, including at least 35 bullet casings.
