A man was shot during what police believe was an attempted robbery in Seattle's Belltown neighborhood on Friday evening. According to a report from the Seattle Police Department Blotter, the incident occurred near the intersection of Blanchard Street and 1st Avenue at approximately 6:49 p.m.
Seattle police officers responded to the scene after receiving reports of the shooting. They found a 24-year-old male victim who had been wounded in the hand. The victim conveyed to authorities that a suspect had aggressively approached him, pressing a handgun to his rib cage in an attempt to quickly rob him. During the encounter, the suspect reportedly shot the victim and then fled through an adjacent alley heading eastbound. The precise motivations behind the attack remain under investigation.
Emergency responders provided initial medical assistance at the scene. The Seattle Fire Department medics subsequently took over, transporting the injured man to Harborview Medical Center. The man was in stable condition upon departure and expected to recover from what was deemed a non-life-threatening injury, as further detailed by the authorities.
Despite a search of the area, officers were not able to immediately locate the individual responsible for the shooting. Detectives from the Robbery Unit have since been tasked to diligently pursue an investigation into the matter.
