Shane Devon Tamura, a 27-year-old man from Las Vegas, tragically took four lives and left another in critical condition after entering a Midtown Manhattan office building at 345 Park Avenue on July 28. Tamura, wielding an M4-style semi-automatic rifle, initiated the assault in the lobby before relocating to the 33rd floor, where he ended his life with the same weapon. Among the deceased was an off-duty NYPD officer who was providing security at the time of the incident.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) shared details on Tamura, revealing a history of mental health crises and minor legal infractions. The department is not connected to the New York incident; nonetheless, the ties Tamura had to Las Vegas have prompted them to release records that would typically stay under wraps. LVMPD facilitated two mental health interventions for Tamura under Nevada law in 2022 and 2024, respectively, and he also faced a trespassing charge at a casino in 2023, as well as a traffic violation in 2024. In the wake of the shooting, LVMPD has made these records publicly available.
