The Mankato Department of Public Safety is making it clear that road safety remains a top priority, as evident in their latest social media update detailing July's traffic enforcement efforts.
In a post shared by Mankato Police and Fire, the department provided statistics from the previous month's activities that included the completion of 408 traffic stops and the issuance of 140 citations, alongside 18 arrests for DWI, reminding residents that vigilance on the road is a responsibility shared by all drivers.
Particularly alarming was the highest recorded Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) coming in at 0.22, which is significantly over the legal limit; this, alongside the 37 speeding citations handed out, tells a troubling story of negligence and recklessness on Mankato's thoroughfares.
The post also highlighted some of the most egregious speeding violations which featured one vehicle hurtling at 67 mph in a 30 mph zone, another at 61 mph, and yet another at 57 mph—speeds that not only defy legal limits but decorum and common sense, as the department reported "These are not the kinds of “records” we want to see brokenn," emphasizing the danger that such infringements pose to the collective well-being of the Mankato community.
Public safety officials urge the community to drive sober, stay alert and watch one's speed in a collaborative effort to ensure that Mankato’s roadways remain safe for all, it is a simple set of guidelines that should be second nature for all but still require constant reinforcement in light of the continual transgressions observed by law enforcement on the roads.
