The Maricopa Police Department is bolstering its ranks with five new officers, each bringing a distinct background and a commitment to serve the rapidly growing community. A recent announcement introduced these individuals who have completed their academy training and will now undergo field training to fully prepare for the demands of their roles. The department emphasized that while technical skills are critical, it is the character and dedication of these officers that truly define their potential for success in law enforcement.
Among the new officers is a retired U.S. Army Staff Sergeant, Officer Miller, who told the City of Maricopa, "My aunt, who’s been a police officer for over 20 years, my family, and my passion for helping others all led me to this career." Miller brings 11 years of military service, offering leadership, dedication to safety, and a sense of humor. Officer Soto-Paez, a longtime Maricopa resident who became a U.S. citizen in 2024, contributes language skills and a deep understanding of the community after moving from Mexico. Officer McDonald, who overcame health challenges early in life, adds experience in behavioral health and the fitness industry. Officer Cuevas-Navarro, a former detention officer and SWAT team member, brings high-pressure law enforcement expertise, while Officer Ingram continues his family’s tradition of service with a military background and commitment to being a role model in Maricopa.
Each officer shared insights into their personal motivations and experiences during interviews featured in the department's news release. Officer Soto-Paez, for instance, shared his desire to "contribute to making our city a better place—not just for my children, but for all children here." Officer McDonald emphasized the importance of accountability and integrity, stating, "II strive to do the right thing at all times. I know I’ll make mistakes, but I’m committed to learning and growing from them. I expect the same from those I work with and will hold others accountable with the authority entrusted to me," as per the City of Maricopa.
Chief Mark Goodman praised the new officers, saying, "The academy prepares them for the job, but it’s their character, compassion, and commitment that will make them great officers." The MPD is eager to see how the new officers' diverse experiences and approaches to policing will impact the community. The Maricopa community is invited to welcome these latest additions to the police force, who stand ready to connect, protect, and make a positive difference in their new roles.
