In the shadows of the evening on a routine Monday, law enforcement officers from Massachusetts State Police and the Weymouth Police Department coordinated an intricate sting operation, which culminated in the apprehension of two brothers, Elijah and Isaiah Tavares, for their alleged involvement in fentanyl and cocaine trafficking across the state.
According to a social media post by the Massachusetts State Police, the Tavares brothers were caught at a Weymouth apartment complex with Elijah emerging from the front door, resisting arrest, struggled before he was detained with narcotics ready for distribution and Isaiah was caught with over 1 kilogram of fentanyl concealed in his sweatshirt upon exiting the rear door of the same residence.
The operation, involving the Commonwealth Interstate Narcotics Reduction Enforcement Teams (CINRET)-West and CINRET-South, was a result of astute investigative work with troopers initially gathering intelligence that pointed towards the siblings’ possession of a significant quantity of fentanyl that evening. A subsequent search warrant unearthed a stockpile of drugs and weapons including 4.5 kilograms of fentanyl, approximately 46 grams of cocaine, two loaded firearms with ammunition, a large sum of cash, and several pounds of marijuana, the comprehensive findings indicating a substantial drug operation.
The combined efforts of multiple Massachusetts State Police units and local detectives, underscored by the strategic maneuvers of the MSP Air Wing, the Norwell Barracks, and especially the Troop D Community Action Team, paved the way for a successful outcome that netted a significant seizure of illegal substances and the thwarting of their transit from eastern to western parts of the state, all instrumental components of the Massachusetts drug trade which affects the lives of countless citizens on a daily basis.
