Maui is gearing up for a long weekend as the County gives a nod to Statehood Day, and that means a pause on usual business — offices and services will be on break mode tomorrow, August 15. According to a recent release by the County of Maui, if you’ve got plans that require county services, it's best to get them done before the holiday hits or wait until the following week.
The list of closures doesn't leave much wiggle room, encompassing all County of Maui offices, public pools, and even the landfills across Hāna, Molokaʻi, and Lānaʻi, if tossing trash was on your agenda, it'll have to wait, you'll be looking at condensed hours for the Central Maui Landfill and Maui EKO Compost too – they're set to operate from 6 a.m. to noon; likewise for Olowalu Recycling & Refuse Convenience Center with its doors open from 8 a.m. to noon.
But not all services are hitting the pause button; residential trash pickup and Maui Bus will be running their regular schedules, assuring at least a semblance of normalcy in the island's rhythm. So, for those relying on the bus to get around or expecting their bins emptied, you're in luck, that part of daily life on Maui remains uninterrupted.
After we've all had our fill of the Statehood Day commemorations, things will bounce back to the usual buzz – regular business hours for County offices and services will resume on Monday, August 18.
