The County of Maui is extending its arm of support to the community by facilitating a grants workshop set for Thursday, Aug. 21, from noon to 2 p.m. Taking place at the Wānanalua Congregational Church's Mother Alice Hall in Hāna, this workshop is open to those seeking to bolster their grant writing prowess. Mayor’s Chief of Staff Cynthia Lallo along with County Budget Director Lesley Milner will be spearheading the session, offering insights into the mechanics of general grant writing and answering inquiries pertinent to the County’s funding opportunities. A correction from a prior announcement has set this updated time for the workshop.
Inserted within the fabric of the Mayor Richard Bissen’s initiative, "Holomua Kākou," which translates to Moving Forward Together, this grants workshop is a part of a broader effort to make county resources more accessible, especially to those in Maui County's rural localities. Previous information released about the workshop time was incorrect, but has been clarified for the benefit of interested participants. Staff from the Office of the Mayor will also be available tomorrow, Aug. 20, and the date of the workshop, to assist with queries and offer additional support from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the same venue.
In tandem with the workshop, Mayor Bissen is carving out time for a community discussion, dubbed 'community talk story,' scheduled for tomorrow night, Aug. 20, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Helene Hall Community Center located at 174 Keawa Place, Hāna. This event is an open forum where East Maui residents are invited to voice their concerns, seek clarity on county endeavors, or propose discussion topics. Requests or questions can be submitted prior via email to [email protected], or can be brought up in person during the meeting.
Continuing the momentum of Holomua Kākou, plans are in place to bring similar events to Molokaʻi later in August and to Lānaʻi in September.
