In a concerted effort to address the needs of Maui's houseless population, the Maui Police Department's Mobile Medical Education Unit (MMEU) pulled into Kalama Park on Monday, according to a recent social media post from the Maui Police Department. The MMEU will be offering a range of essential services, including mental health support, food stamps, non-critical wound care, and clothing distribution, among others, as a part of their ongoing community engagement initiatives.
The outreach event seems to have already made an impact, with Aloha House providing information on substance use and mental health services to 10 individuals. Imua Services also played a critical role by offering health insurance information and helping participants understand their eligibility for SNAP benefits.
Residents in need or those who want to participate in this program can find the MMEU stationed at the same location in Kihei from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. throughout August.
