Lānaʻi residents, mark your calendars for a local government affair headed your way. According to an official announcement, Mayor Richard Bissen is set to return to Lānaʻi with the Holomua Kākou event, rescheduled to Sept. 15, and Sept. 16, 2025.
The event, an opportunity for residents of the Pineapple Isle to engage directly with municipal officials, was initially slated for an earlier date but had to be postponed following a tsunami warning in July. Mayor Bissen emphasizes community access to government, noting in a statement that "Our rural communities deserve meaningful access to government in their hometowns."
"Mayor Bissen and Your Team in Your Town" will be present at the ILWU Union Hall, located at 840 Ilima Ave., Lānaʻi City, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days to field questions and assist the public. Additionally, on Monday evening, the mayor will host a community talk story from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the same venue, providing a platform for open conversation and exchange of thoughts between residents and local leaders.
Furthermore, grant workshops will take place on Tuesday from noon to 2 p.m., also at the ILWU Union Hall. County Chief of Staff Cynthia Lallo and Budget Director Lesley Milner will lead the sessions, offering insights into grant writing and the specifics on the County’s grant process. Residents interested in submitting topics or questions for the community talk story can do so in advance via email to [email protected] or direct their queries in person during the event.
Moreover, Bissen's administration has laid out plans to bring Holomua Kākou to East Maui and Molokaʻi in August.
