The project unites public and private sectors with a mission to shed light on the city's significant challenges and opportunities. Partners onboard including the Civic Council, United Way, and several local foundations and educational institutions, as reported by the City of Jacksonville's official website.
Mayor Deegan is to firmly set Jacksonville on the path to using data-driven strategies aiming to foster socioeconomic advancements. "This is about sharpening our tools for change," she told the City of Jacksonville's news hub, "Just as a builder needs a blueprint, a city needs good data to build a future that works for everyone. The State of Jax gives us a clear, transparent view of where we're doing well—and where we can do better. This is what separates the good cities from the world-class ones." The initiative's goal is to make key economic, health, education, and social indicators easily accessible to all stakeholders through the platform stateofjax.org.
The "State of Jax" promises an interactive public website featuring numerous local indicators from reliable sources. Users can look forward to comprehensive data on various topics like life expectancy, housing affordability, and education outcomes. It also aims to support major programs such as Jacksonville Journey Forward and Community Benefits Agreements by providing practical tools for these partnerships.
The initiative is powered by mySidewalk, ensuring access to over 2,000 datasets from credible organizations such as the CDC and HUD. Parvez Ahmed, the Chief of Analytics for the City, emphasized the significance of reliable, accessible information in sparking innovation. He stated, "State of Jax brings together hyperlocal, high-quality data from multiple trusted sources to help us see the full picture of our city. It’s a collaborative tool designed to spark new ideas, better align efforts, and support smarter decision making across government, business, and the nonprofit sector," in a comment to the City of Jacksonville's website.
