The device was found during "routine maintenance" by construction teams, as noted in a statement released by the hospital obtained by KPRC 2. The nefarious activity came to light after the camera was spotted in the facility's unisex bathroom.
Upon learning of the incident, which the hospital describes as "deeply concerning" and "unacceptable," the employee in question was promptly terminated. Memorial Hermann announced to KHOU 11 News that "Upon discovery, we took swift action and engaged the appropriate authorities." The hospital's review of the former employee's record revealed no related complaints, although a tipoff to KPRC 2 claimed that multiple complaints had been previously lodged against the individual in question, a director at the facility, and went unaddressed by human resources.
The identity of the former employee has not been disclosed publicly as of yet, while law enforcement's investigation into the matter continues.
