A heat advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. CDT today, according to the National Weather Service in Memphis. Heat index values are expected to reach up to 106 degrees across parts of East Arkansas, North Mississippi, and West Tennessee. The advisory states that the combination of high temperatures and humidity may increase the risk of heat-related illnesses if appropriate precautions are not followed.

The NWS has issued guidelines to help reduce the risk of heat-related issues: drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned environments, avoid direct sunlight, and check on family members and neighbors. Daily weather conditions are expected to remain mostly sunny with occasional cloud cover, while evenings and nights will be mostly clear with temperatures steady in the mid-70s. Rain chances remain low, with only a 20 to 30 percent probability of scattered showers and thunderstorms later in the week.

Temperatures are expected to rise heading into the weekend, with highs near 96 degrees on Saturday and 98 degrees on Sunday. Forecasts for Monday and Tuesday indicate a continuation of hot and sunny conditions, with temperatures possibly reaching or exceeding 99 degrees.

Friday’s advisory from the NWS in Memphis identifies several locations expected to experience the most intense heat, including cities such as Bartlett, Memphis, Southaven, and Germantown, as well as smaller communities like Marianna and Tunica.
