The National Weather Service in Memphis has delivered its detailed forecast for the coming days, and it’s looking like a mix of sunshine and potential showers, with high temperatures persisting in the region. Today, expect a "40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2pm" with sunny skies and a high near 95 degrees, as per the NWS forecast. Sunseekers will be pleased, but those weary of the swelter should take note of the heat index values, which could climb as high as 105.
Tonight, the chance of precipitation drops to 20 percent before 8 pm, then skies clear up as the temperature settles to a low around 74 degrees. An east wind around 5 mph is expected to become calm by evening. The mugginess may be less noticeable, but those out after sunset should still prepare for a warm southern night.
The latter half of the week follows a similar pattern with Thursday introducing a "30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1pm," as reported by the NWS. The same calm winds will sweep across Memphis, turning northwest around 5 mph in the afternoon, while the heat index remains a factor with values reaching up to 103.
The weekend promises a climb in temperatures, with Friday through Tuesday forecasting highs teetering near the upper 90s – specifically, "Sunny and hot, with a high near 97" on Saturday and even nudging toward 98 by Sunday. The NWS warns that calmer winds will do little to ease the heat, with temperatures only dropping to the mid-70s at night.
