An 18-year-old suspect, wanted for the murder of another teenager in Memphis, has been apprehended in Atlanta, Georgia. Identified as Trenton Dillon Harris, the young individual is facing a first-degree murder charge in the killing of Antonio Sykes, Jr., according to a report by WREG.
The Shelby County Sheriff's Office began their investigation on August 22 after the discovery of Sykes, who was found shot dead in a vehicle. Found on the 1800 block of Berryhill Road in Cordova, the deceased bore the grim hallmark of violence that spiraled into a fatal confrontation. Following the incident, and two days post the harrowing discovery, law enforcement identified Harris as the gunman and consequently issued an arrest warrant for him, as mentioned in an article from Local Memphis.
In coordination with the U.S. Marshals Service Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force based in Memphis, detectives learned of Harris fleeing to Atlanta, leading to his eventual arrest on the morning of Thursday. The arrest was executed at a local Atlanta residence by agents from the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, "without incident," taking Harris into custody for his extradition back to Shelby County. A report from FOX13 Memphis corroborated this information.
U.S. Marshal Tyreece Miller commended the diligent efforts of the detectives involved, stating, "I commend the quick work of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Detectives in solving this case," a statement obtained by WREG highlights. The justice process is now set in motion with Harris awaiting proceedings after being extradited, although a court date has yet to be scheduled.
