Memphis Police are seeking information on a burglary that occurred earlier this month at a local Dollar General. The incident took place at 4111 Summer Avenue on August 3. According to the Memphis Police Department's official report, the burglary went down at precisely 4:40 p.m.
From the details pieced together by law enforcement, the suspect parked his vehicle, a white Ford Windstar with a notably broken rear windshield wiper, at the rear of the building. Donning a medical face mask and casual wear, he then made his way into the store through the front door. Surveillance footage showed a Black male sporting a dark ball cap, a tan shirt emblazoned with some image, blue jeans, and stark white tennis shoes; the precise timing of his entry was pegged at around 4:00 p.m.
Inside, the suspect headed straight for the stockroom. Police say he then took precautions to ensure his unauthorized stay would not be disturbed, going so far as to barricade the doors. The target of his heist was mundane yet valuable – detergent, a whole $1,800 worth, part of a recent shipment. Swiftly making off with the goods, he loaded the pilfered items into his van before disappearing from the crime scene, as detailed by MPD.
The suspect, who was seen getting into the rear of his vehicle, likely didn’t anticipate that a broken windshield wiper would prompt a police investigation. Authorities are asking anyone with information about the burglary to contact Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH.
