The City of Memphis has announced the temporary shutdown of the Frayser-Raleigh Senior Center for repairs, following an inspection that found several areas of concern, including the performance of the HVAC system and the fire suppression system. Necessary fixes are needed to ensure the space remains safe and accommodating for the city's elderly population, the city noted in an official statement.

The center will remain closed while the crews work on the essential repairs. This will make certain that all the facility needs are met promptly and adequately. In the meantime, the seniors who rely on the programs and activities usually held at the center will not be left without services. The city has organized alternative locations for these activities, ensuring a continuum of service during the center's closure.

According to the City of Memphis, all regularly scheduled programming usually hosted at the senior center will be relocated to the Raleigh Community Center. Additionally, meal services which many seniors depend upon, will continue but will be made available at the McWherter and Lewis Senior Centers.

"Our seniors deserve high-quality spaces that meet their needs and expectations," Parks Director Justice Bolden said in a statement obtained by the city's website. The city reiterated that the dedication to providing excellent service for its senior residents remains resolute even as the Frayser-Raleigh Senior Center undergoes its temporary closure. A timeline for when the center will reopen will be shared after they have confirmed the full scope of the required repair work.

The City of Memphis has expressed gratitude toward the community for their understanding and support as the improvements are being made. These repairs are expected to safeguard a more reliable and pleasant environment for the seniors who frequent the Frayser-Raleigh Senior Center when it reopens.
