The Mesquite Animal Shelter is joining forces with a national initiative, Clear the Shelters, aimed at connecting our furry friends with their forever homes by hosting a fee-waived pet adoption event on August 23, from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Citing the Mesquite Animal Shelter's announcement, potential pet parents can come in, select their new companion without the usual adoption fees, with the added assurance that all animals will be sterilized, vaccinated, and microchipped ahead of finding their new home.
"Clear the Shelters is a great opportunity to connect pets in need with loving families," Maria Martinez, Director of Neighborhood Services, told the City of Mesquite. Building on the success of previous years, the shelter is hopeful that the initiative this August will be as fruitful as the last. The month-long campaign isn't just about adoptions; financial contributions and donations of various supplies are encouraged and appreciated as well, especially those aimed at enhancing the welfare and comfort of animals that reside at the shelter.
Adding an element of chance and fun, the shelter also offers a "spin-the-wheel" deal throughout August. Adopters can try their luck at spinning a wheel after choosing their pet to win reduced adoption fees ranging from $10 to $40. This move is another bid to encourage the local community to step forward and make a difference in a shelter pet’s life.
Since its inception in 2015 by NBCUniversal Local, Clear the Shelters has grown into a widespread campaign, with Telemundo co-hosting efforts to increase visibility and support for animal welfare. Last year, the campaign's impact was significant, with more than 170,000 pets finding homes and an impressive sum of over $500,000 raised, all showcasing the campaign’s substantial reach and effect on animal communities.
Locals who are interested in browsing potential new household members can check out available pets at the Mesquite Animal Shelter’s website. The shelter, located at 1650 Gross Road, Mesquite, operates through a weekly schedule, open most days except Wednesdays and Sundays. With over 170 adoptions during the previous year's Clear the Shelters month, the shelter is bustling with activity and hopeful to replicate or exceed these numbers for the current year.
