The Mesquite Police Department has taken a significant step towards increasing roadway safety with the full operational launch of its Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement (CVE) Unit. Recognizing the surge in commercial traffic due to North Texas's industrial expansion, Mesquite's City Council initiated the program in 2023, striving to specifically address the influx of large commercial vehicles. According to the information released by the Mesquite Police Department's social media post, after a year spent in training and gathering necessary equipment, the unit is now fully ready to patrol.
The CVE unit began operations in May 2024 and is comprised of two officers and one sergeant, utilizing specially equipped Ford F-150 Interceptors to patrol the streets and highways. The department has stated that its goal is to robustly enforce the standards set by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance. These rules and regulations are designed to enhance the safety of commercial vehicles and their drivers, aiming to prevent crashes, injuries, and fatalities.
This enforcement aligns closely with the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance's comprehensive safety standards, which cover vehicle maintenance, driving qualifications, and operation procedures.
