A brush fire in Micco prompted evacuations of homes near Cherish Drive, south of Micco Road, and west of U.S. 1, including proximity to an FPL solar farm. According to ClickOrlando, the blaze that quickly expanded to 15 acres led Brevard County Fire Rescue to evacuate an estimated eight to 10 homes, the agency's spokesperson informed, but they successfully prevented structural damage.
While teams worked to contain the fast-moving fire, Brevard County opened respite centers at South Mainland Community Center and Barefoot Bay for those dislocated by the fire, a response to the urgent situation and the fire believed to have started around 5 p.m. following a thunderstorm, which included lightning, according to WESH.
As crews moved into the mop-up stage, no injuries arose from the incident, and residents reported white ash descending upon their properties amid the fire's escalation, a vivid detail told to ClickOrlando by a community member living around a mile away. The American Red Cross was also called upon to assist affected individuals as needed.
