Yesterday, August 6, a rollover crash on I-43 near the Marquette interchange in Milwaukee resulted in injuries to a woman and a 9-year-old girl. According to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office, the incident occurred just before 5:45 p.m. involving a semi and two SUVs, with one of the SUVs flipping over twice. As reported by WISN, the young girl, who was a passenger in the SUV that rolled, was ejected from the vehicle but managed to return to it to check on the female driver.
Both the child and the woman were taken to a hospital and are in stable condition as of 7:45 p.m., per the sheriff's office. Journal Sentinel adds that no other injuries were reported for the occupants of the semi or the second SUV involved in the crash. The freeway was partially closed due to the incident but has since reopened. The investigation into the causes of the crash remains ongoing.
The sheriff's office also stated that neither the semi nor the other SUV involved in the collision sustained significant damage. This detail, along with accounts of the SUV's harrowing rollover, has been corroborated by witnesses. Meanwhile, the response by first responders to the emergencies was commended for their swift action in providing aid to the victims and managing the scene.
While the recovery of the woman and the child is indeed fortunate, the accident serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictability and potential dangers of road travel. Further information pertaining to the crash, including possible contributing factors and the results of the ongoing investigation, will be released in due time, as noted by officials in a statement obtained by WTMJ.
