An officer of the Minneapolis Park Police was injured on Tuesday during an effort to arrest a suspect reported to be involved in criminal sexual conduct near Mueller Park. The incident took place in an alley close to the park around 1:15 pm, when the officer confronted the non-compliant suspect, whose resistance led to a struggle.
It was during this confrontation that an accidental discharge is believed to have occurred, with one round fired from the officer’s duty weapon, which was still holstered at the time. Both Park Police and Minneapolis Police Department officers responded to the scene to quickly take control of the situation and apprehend the individual.
According to a statement on the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board's official website, the injured officer was taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. The suspect, although not believed to be injured, was also transported to the hospital for precautionary evaluation. The full report of the incident can be found on the board's news release.
