Opportunities for ambitious high school students in Missouri have expanded with the announcement that applications for the Dual Credit/Dual Enrollment Scholarship are now open. According to the Missouri Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development, this scholarship helps cover the costs of college-level courses that allow high school students to earn credit toward both their diplomas and future college degrees. Eligible students may apply for financial support for the fall 2025 and spring 2026 semesters.
Participating in these courses, students are granted the chance to get a running start on their postsecondary education, potentially hastening their journey through higher educational attainment and fostering a financial reprieve from the often burdening cost of college tuition. Educational officials seem stirred by the potential developmental impacts of the program. "We are excited to open this scholarship application to help students pay for a college education while still in high school," Dr. Bennett Boggs, Commissioner of the Missouri Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development, told the publication.
The application process has been streamlined via an online portal, with the window for the fall 2025 semester closing on December 1, 2025, and for spring 2026, on April 1, 2026. Students, while applying for the scholarships, have the convenience to apply for both semesters concurrently if they meet the set requirements.
Prospective applicants must meet several eligibility criteria before being considered for the scholarship funds—students need to be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and a Missouri resident, hold a minimum unweighted 2.5 cumulative GPA, and have met the school's prerequisites for taking dual credit or dual enrollment courses. Additionally, they must demonstrate financial need through one or more criteria, such as being part of a family eligible for subsidized school lunches, receiving public assistance, or experiencing homelessness, as per the announcement.
