Chaos erupted in the early hours on a quiet street in Modesto when police were called to a shooting on the 1700 block of Boulder Avenue. Shortly after 1:00 a.m. last Friday, August 8, an encounter between Modesto police and 19-year-old Jadon Sieng turned violent, resulting in an officer-involved shooting. The Modesto Police Department detailed in a social media post that officers had initially been dispatched following reports of shots fired by Sieng.
Upon locating a vehicle matching the suspect's description, one of the responding officers was struck when Sieng reportedly drove toward him, prompting the officer to discharge his firearm, injuring Sieng in the arm. Fleeing the scene, Sieng crashed near Highway 99 on-ramp at Hatch Road, according to a sergeant from the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office impacting almost a light pole in the process, and continued to escape on foot. A search ensued, drawing resources from multiple law enforcement agencies, including the California Highway Patrol and Ceres Police Department.
The police investigation revealed Sieng had previously assaulted a female in Modesto before his armed arrival at Boulder Avenue. Sieng is alleged to have fired several rounds at individuals in front of a residence. He was later apprehended by the Modesto Police Department's SWAT Team, found in the center median of Highway 99, south of Hatch Road. Sieng was provided first aid and transported to a hospital for treatment; a loaded handgun was retrieved from his vehicle.
Following standard protocols for officer-involved shootings, three separate investigations have been instituted to examine the altercation between Sieng and the police. The involved officer, suffering a lower leg injury by the suspect’s vehicle, was treated and subsequently released from the hospital. Charged with multiple felonies, Sieng's counts include attempted murder of a police officer and domestic violence. Anyone with information has been urged to contact Detective Keyon Turner at 209-572-9564, the department reported.
