In Monroe, Hamilton Drywall Products recently received a $23,000 grant from the City in recognition of its $1.5 million in taxable investments made last year. The funding is part of the City’s economic development incentive grant program, which supports local business growth, as reported in the City of Monroe. On August 4, a group of city officials, including Mayor Robert Burns and Council Member Franco McGee, presented the check to Hamilton Drywall representatives, General Manager Nathan Hamilton and Controller Iris Chasteen.
According to the city's announcement, Monroe has served as the base for Hamilton Drywall since their relocation during the pandemic, and the company appears to be thriving in its new location. City Manager Mark Watson highlighted the company’s contribution to local job creation and its positive impact on the tax base as key factors in supporting the community’s long-term economic growth. Hamilton Drywall manufactures a variety of building materials, supplying drywall finishing products to the Southeast’s construction market. In recent years, the company has focused on expanding its presence in Monroe, with 2024 investments surpassing expectations, reaching a total of $11 million.
With an agreement inked by the Monroe City Council, the company promised to inject at least $2 million annually into machinery, equipment, and facilities. In a sort of municipal quid pro quo, the city pledged to pay Hamilton Drywall $115,000 over the course of five years, kick-starting in 2022. As Mayor Burns put it, "When companies like Hamilton Drywall choose to grow here, it demonstrates confidence in Monroe’s workforce, infrastructure, and community support. We are proud to celebrate their success," in a statement obtained by the City of Monroe.
Council Member McGee praised the expansion as a clear example of how economic incentives can drive job creation, stimulate local spending, and strengthen Monroe’s financial base. Additionally, Council Member Kerr highlighted the technological advancements achieved by Hamilton Drywall, recognizing the company’s management team for their innovation in improving wall surface processes for the real estate sector.
