Montgomery County drivers should prepare for some evening and weekend disruptions starting September 15th, as the Department of Transportation kicks off its fall cleaning of public parking garages in Bethesda, Silver Spring, and Wheaton. This routine maintenance is set not only to spruce up the county's car parks but also to help keep local waterways clear from grease and oil runoff.
The washdowns, happening twice annually, have become a standard effort to maintain garage integrity and environmental cleanliness. Garage visitors might need to adapt their parking routines, with certain spaces temporarily unavailable. The process will start in Bethesda and is expected to conclude in Silver Spring by November 11th. Full details on the cleaning schedule and affected areas can be found on Montgomery County's official website.
Principally, these cleanings are an effort to minimize the degradation that salt, sand, and vehicle fluids can wreak upon the structural soundness and aesthetic of these public spaces. MCDOT contractors are planning to efficiently carry out their work around parked cars and garage traffic, minimizing the inconvenience to the county's citizens.
As part of their procedure, signs will be posted to notify garage users of the impending impacted access points. "MCDOT contractors will do their best to perform work around garage traffic and parked vehicles and to post signs notifying customers of anticipated impacts to access," noted the Montgomery County press release. Commuters and visitors should stay alert for these notices and plan ahead to avoid any potential parking hiccups during the cleaning period.
