Monticello, New York's local drug scene faced a significant disruption as Jahreek Bush, a known fentanyl and cocaine dealer whose operation falsely branded the lethal narcotic as heroin, was sentenced to a substantial 117 months behind bars. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Kenneth M. Karas and includes an additional three years of supervised release once Bush completes his prison term, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York reported.

Information from the trial revealed Bush's illegal activities spanned a three-month period from January to April 2023, during which time Bush peddled his dangerous wares in the town of Monticello. On April 25 as Bush was prepping for another transaction in a parking lot bust, law enforcement moved in capturing the dealer who was found with a loaded firearm and over 100 individual packages of fentanyl, in a fanny pack he had no business wearing that also held more cocaine and fentanyl; these grim tools of his trade are stark evidence of the dark connections between narcotics and violence in our communities.

U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton expressed the grave nature of Bush's crimes stating, "Jahreek Bush dealt highly dangerous drugs, including fentanyl that he falsely branded as heroin, and he illegally carried a loaded gun while doing so," Clayton continued, "Armed drug traffickers fuel violence and overdoses in our communities. This Office and our law enforcement partners will work tirelessly to bring to justice those who put innocent lives at risk," as per the U.S. Attorney's Office.

After the arrest and conviction, authorities credited the FBI's Hudson Valley Safe Streets Task Force, New York State Police, and Sullivan County District Attorney’s Office for their coordinated efforts. The case addressed a drug-related crime in Monticello involving falsely marked heroin that posed serious risks of overdose, with the convicted individual now facing sentencing.
