In a recent operation by the Mooresville Police Department, a man with a previous criminal record was apprehended on various charges, including the theft of a firearm. On Thursday, law enforcement conducted a search warrant at 311 S. Magnolia St., which led to the arrest of Gregory Adam Newton, a 41-year-old resident of Mooresville who was identified as the suspect in the case.
According to a social media post from the Mooresville Police Department, their investigation pointed to Newton in connection with a stolen firearm. Detected during the search, a firearm and about 7 grams of methamphetamine were tucked away in Newton's residence, a home already marked by the shadows of past offenses.
Newton, who has a history of felony convictions, is facing multiple charges. "Detectives charged Newton with felony larceny of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and felony possession of methamphetamine, a Schedule II controlled substance," according to the Mooresville Police Department's online statement. The outcome of these allegations finds Newton held without bond at the Iredell County Jail.
In arresting Newton, the officers not only recovered a stolen firearm but also intercepted a quantity of illegal drugs, reaffirming the department's ongoing effort in curbing crime and drug proliferation.
