A harrowing incident unfolded in Framingham yesterday when a 34-year-old mother and her 7-month-old baby were struck by a vehicle while crossing the street. According to Framingham police the accident occurred at approximately 11:30 a.m. at the intersection of Waverly and Hollis streets. The mother, pushing her baby in a stroller, was in the crosswalk when they were hit by a tan-colored minivan making a left turn, as WCVB reported.

Footage from the scene captured the aftermath, showing the stroller flipped onto its back in the midst of the street, crushed against the front of the van. While injuries were sustained, they were deemed non-life-threatening and both mother and baby were transferred to hospitals in the Boston area for treatment. In a statement obtained by 7NEWS, Sgt. Ryan Porter of the Framingham Police relayed that expectations are for both to survive.

The driver of the minivan, a 68-year-old man, remained at the scene following the collision and was cooperative with the authorities. He was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. Surveillance camera footage, illustrates the critical moments leading up to the crash, capturing the woman as she enters the intersection just before the collision.

Investigations into the exact circumstances of the incident are ongoing, with police currently trying to determine who held the right of way at the time of the accident, "He stayed on scene, he was cooperative. He was cited with failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk,” Framingham Police Sgt. Ryan Porter told 7NEWS. The identity of the woman and child have not been released, and updates will follow as the investigation progresses.
