The tight-knit community of Mount Dora is on alert following the disappearance of a beloved local pet, Papaya, a two-year-old sun conure known for its vivid orange plumage accented with splashes of green, yellow, and blue. The Mount Dora Police Department confirmed the bird was reported missing last Monday, with investigators quickly surmising that foul play might be involved. According to a statement detailed by WESH, Papaya was placed on the front porch of a residence along 9th Avenue when the owner discovered him missing later that evening.
In a mysterious twist, the cage was reportedly found "securely closed," leading to concerns that Papaya was stolen rather than having flown away. "The victim stated Papaya is unable to escape on his own," said the police report shared by ClickOrlando, painting a concerning picture for Papaya's safe return.
Residents who might have seen anything out of the ordinary or know of Papaya's current location are strongly encouraged to reach out to the authorities. Tips can be directed to the Mount Dora Police Department at 352-735-7130.
