The Metropolitan Police Department has opened an investigation into a deadly incident that left a pedestrian dead on DC-295, as reported in a recent release on their website. The crash, which involved a pedestrian and a blue 2025 Toyota Camry, occurred early last Saturday.

According to the details provided by the MPD, officers from the Sixth District were dispatched to the northbound lanes of DC-295 near the Pennsylvania Avenue, Southeast exit around 2:29 a.m. Upon arrival, they found an adult male pedestrian who had been struck by the vehicle. The man, identified as 58-year-old Lee Clark of Capitol Heights, MD, was unconscious and not breathing. Despite efforts from DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services, Clark was pronounced dead at the scene.

The preliminary investigation findings suggest that the Toyota Camry was traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck Clark. The crash took place just before the vehicle reached the underpass of the Anacostia Foot Trail bridge. Subsequent to the collision, the passengers of the vehicle abandoned the scene on foot without providing their identities.

Detectives from MPD’s Major Crash Investigations Unit are spearheading the investigation into this incident. The police are currently seeking information from anyone who might have knowledge regarding the hit-and-run. MPD is urging individuals to come forward and contact them at (202) 727-9099 or submit a tip via text to their TEXT TIP LINE at 50411.
