A collision this morning between a Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) transport van and a pickup truck has resulted in multiple injuries and the temporary closure of FM 980 in Walker County. The Constable's Office of Precinct 3 informed KHOU that the road was shut down in both directions near Northside Baptist Church as first responders attended the emergency situation.
The specifics on how many individuals sustained injuries or the severity of said injuries remain undisclosed. However, responding units transported multiple patients to area hospitals through different means, being via ambulance and air medical helicopter. The closure, as they worked the scene, compelled motorists to seek alternate routes, with officials yet to announce when the thoroughfare might be cleared and reopened for travel, as per KHOU's coverage.
As reported by Fox26Houston, the closure affected the stretch north of FM 2628, but the road reopened around 10:30 a.m. The cause of the crash remains unknown, as does the official count of those injured in the incident.
